Des routes et des mots, 2018-2024.
16 drawings, coloured pencil and graphite on printed text, 26.5 × 35 cm.
Private collections, Belgium and France.
Many writers have demonstrated that it is sometimes necessary to go beyond one's boundaries (personal and geographical) in order to achieve fulfilment.
Each drawing represents two writers' paths, either crisscrossing, parallel, or with similarities. And if all the drawings' titles begin with Des routes et des mots, the end specifies for each the relationship between these writers.
Marguerite Yourcenar and James Baldwin took opposite routes to live and express themselves more freely (Des routes et des mots — Émigrations croisées). Joseph Conrad left behind the Polish language to write in English while Samuel Beckett put aside English to prefer French (Des routes et des mots — La langue de l'autre), etc.
